Simple Things I Do to Feel Like Myself Again (As a Mom of 4)

Lately, I haven’t always felt like myself.

And if you’re a mom, you probably understand that feeling more than you’d like to.

Life gets full. Heavy. Busy.

And somewhere in between taking care of everyone else… you start to feel a little disconnected from yourself.

I’ve been there more than once this past year—and honestly, even before that.

But I’ve learned it’s not about doing something drastic to “fix it.”
It’s the small things that slowly bring me back.

These are a few simple things I come back to when I need to reset and feel like myself again.

1. Moving my body (even when I don’t feel like it)

If you know me personally—or follow me on Instagram—you know I take this seriously.

Of course, I want to feel physically strong, but more than anything, I want to feel mentally strong. And for me, movement is a big part of that.

Some days it’s a walk.
But most days, I lift weights or work out with my trainer.

Right now, I go to the gym twice a week and do two sessions at home on Zoom.

And I’ve noticed something:
even on the days I don’t feel like it… I’ve never regretted it after.

It shifts my mood, clears my mind, and somehow gives me more energy to handle everything else.

If you’re building a routine, having comfortable workout pieces and a few simple tools at home makes it so much easier to stay consistent.

This is probably the number one thing I do to feel like myself again.

2. Getting ready – even if I’m staying home

When I became a stay-at-home mom, I made a promise to myself:
I would still get ready every day—even if I had nowhere to go.

Nine years later, I’ve kept that promise.

Not perfectly. But consistently.

Skincare has always been a priority for me.
Nothing complicated—just a routine that works:

Now in my forties, I focus more on products that support mature skin and hydration.

Having a morning and nighttime routine feels like a small form of luxury to me.
It’s one of those quiet moments where I reset.

Some days I wear more makeup, some days I don’t.

But on tired days, I keep it simple:

Five minutes—and I feel more awake, more put together, more like myself.

When it comes to clothing, I keep it simple:

I love timeless pieces like my Chanel blazers because they can be dressed up or down and last forever—but you absolutely don’t need to spend that much to achieve the same feeling.

3. Baking (my unexpected reset)

This one might surprise you.

Because yes—life is already busy.

But baking has become one of the most calming things I do.

Home made sourdugh bread

I bake sourdough bread a few times a week, along with other things for my family. And there’s something about working with your hands, slowing down, and seeing the result at the end.

It forces me to be present.

It’s quiet. It’s grounding.

And honestly, it’s one of my favorite ways to reset and to feel like myself again.

4. Stepping away for a few minutes

This is the simplest one—and sometimes the hardest to do.

Stepping away.

No phone. No noise. No distractions.

Just a few minutes to:

  • journal
  • go outside
  • sit in silence
  • take a bath

It helps me hear my own thoughts again.

To breathe.

To come back to myself, even just a little, and to feel like myself again.

Redefining “luxury” (what it means to me now)

I used to think “luxury” meant something big. Something out of reach.

But lately, I see it differently.

It’s the small moments. The quiet ones.
The things that make you feel like yourself again—even in the middle of real life.

A few things I reach for on these days

Final thoughts

I don’t have this figured out all the time.

There are still days when I don’t feel like myself at all.

But I’m learning that coming back to yourself isn’t one big moment—

It’s a series of small ones you choose, over and over again.

And lately, that’s been enough.
