Today on the blog, we will be chatting about the Shea Moistures African Black soap Bamboo Charcoal line. I received this set as a PR gift and decided to do a full review.

Growing up, Sundays were always washdays. My braids would be taken out on a Saturday night, and Sunday, we would wash and braid again to be ready for the school week.

Since my twenties, I wear many protective styles like sew-ins and wigs, but underneath it, I have my natural hair, and it is essential to take good care of it. I have been natural for a very long time. When in 2017 I decided to stop wearing sew-ins and stop with heath on my hair, my friend Lorline introduced me to Shea Moistures, the curl-enhancing smoothie

I immediately fell in love with the brand. In the summer of 2017 we moved to the United States, a fantastic place to be for black hair products. I lived within walking distance from Sally’s Beauty and Target, and they both carried Shea Moistures products.

About Shea Moisture

Sofi Tucker founded Shea Moistures in 1912 in Sierra Leone. She was selling Shea Butter, African Black Soap, and her homemade hair and skin preparations all over the countryside. Shea Moistures is her legacy.

Shea Moistures stands for safe and uncompromising beauty. Their products are all-natural and are never tested on animals.

My favorite Shea Moistures products

Before testing the Shea Moistures African Black soap Bamboo Charcoal line, I already fell in love with some of their other products, which I use for my children and myself. I use the Coconut & Hibiscus line on my daughters and my hair.

And I love the Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration line for my natural hair, especially in the winter.

Let’s just say they have some fantastic products, so I am very excited to dive into the Shea Moistures African Black Soap Charcoal Line.

I received the following products and will test them out:

  • Pre-Shampoo scalp scrub African Black Soap Bamboo Charcoal;
  • Deep Cleansing Shampoo African Black Soap Bamboo Charcoal;
  • Deep Balancing Conditioner African Black Soap Bamboo Charcoal;
  • Purification Masque African Black Soap Bamboo Charcoal.

Shea Moistures African Black Soap Bamboo Charcoal Pre-Shampoo scalp scrub

Shea Moistures African Black Soap Bamboo Charcoal Pre-Shampoo Scalp Scrub

The first thing I notice about this product is that it looks a bit like a brush. I was so excited to use this, especially after having a sew-in for weeks. I made sure my hair was wet, and I used this product just as described. It immediately brought me back to my youth and especially my summers in Suriname.

My grandmother and aunt would wash my hair with tea tree products when I would stay with them in the summer in my teens. My grandmother has always been a fan of more natural products, and the smell and the feeling on my scalp brought me straight back to those memories.

After 5 minutes, I rinsed it off with warm water. This product does the job I was really impressed. It really gives your scalp the scrub it needs and removes all the flakey build-ups from your scalp.

Shea Moistures African Black Soap Bamboo Charcoal Deep Cleansing Shampoo

Shea Moistures African Black Soap Bamboo Charcoal Deep Cleansing Shampoo

Using deep cleansing shampoo is the next step in this routine and I felt the tea tree immediately as well.

I washed my hair and scalp twice with this shampoo. The pre-shampoo took away a lot of the dirt already. The shampoo is sulfate-free, and it left my curls and coils feeling soft and detangled.

Shea Moistures African Black Soap Bamboo Purification Masque

Since I planned to test the whole line, I decided to try the masque after the deep cleansing shampoo instead of the conditioner. I love to use a hair masque in my routine. This one did not disappoint. Like many other Shea Moistures masque I have, it does the job. Leaving my hair super soft, I always decide to leave in the masque longer than 5 min for the extra softness of my hair.

Shea Moistures African Black Soap Bamboo Charcoal Deep Balancing Conditioner

I decided to use this conditioner as the last step in my routine using the Shea Moistures African Black Soap Bamboo Charcoal line. The main reason is that it says that you can use it as a leave-in conditioner as well.

This product is better used as a regular conditioner to wash out instead of leave-in for my hair type. I have other leave-in conditioners from Shea Moistures that are better for my hair. I might leave an update when using this as a wash-out conditioner.

My verdict on the Shea Moistures African Black Soap Bamboo Charcoal line I love the products. The pre-shampoo and the deep cleansing shampoo are what my hair needs after a long sew-in. I really felt that my scalp was clean with not as much effort. The masque is something I will definitely add to my roster as well. The conditioner I would not use as a leave-in conditioner, and will just stick to my products from their other lines, especially if I wear my hair natural. I love this leave-in conditioner, and this smoothie is forever my champ!

Do you use any Shea Moistures Products? What is your favorite line?

Thank you so much, Shea Moistures Canada and Langton PR, for gifting me this line.
